Conifer Cull

We hadn't fully appreciated when we bought the place, just how many trees there were on site. A few weeks ago we arranged for a local tree surgeon (Jim) to come and look at them and advise us on their health and future maintenance. 

One of the main observations we all made was the drastic state of a line of conifers that sits on the bank as you enter the driveway to the house:


They have been very badly tended to in the past, many of them pruned to a state of death. The ones that remain in health obstruct an awful lot of light from the driveway so we are looking at taking these out and replanting some more sympathetic, smaller bushes that still act as a screening between the two buildings but allow for more natural growth beneath:



There is also a dense planting of the same around the old chicken shed. When this is ready for conversion, it would be good to take these conifers out too, to allow for more light into the place and give that big beech tree a lot more room to grow:
